Some of these cameras are even what the industry calls "armoured". Armour Domes are shock and vandal resistant domes meant to take more abuse than your normal "retail shop" domes.

So why would anyone use a security camera over a hidden camera? Depends on your needs. Security cameras have 2 main advantages. First, they are deterrents. They are for the owners and managers that want everyone to know there is a camera watching the people in the area. The second advantage is the smoked dome. It is very hard to tell which way the camera is pointing without getting right up next to the dome and examining it closely. Of course if someone does do that, you now have a nice close up picture of them examining your security system.
