I can't get into the menu, it wants a password.
Usually the recorder will come from the factory with a preset password. It will depend on which model you purchased.
First check the manual for the default password. If you can not find it, you may want to try these
commonly used password : 1, 1111, or 1234.
Where should I put the recorder?
Is is a good idea to place your recorder in a less than obvious location so that in case of a break in, the criminal
will not find your recorder. The easiest place to hide it is in a lockable closet. Another good place is in
the attic space. Lastly, we could make a custom lock box that you could place the recorder in. The lock box could be made for bolting to the ground.
If you choose not to bolt it down, but want to make the lock box in-accessible, I recommend locking it a closet for added security.
How can I connect remotely to the DVMS?
It will depend if the model you purchased supports connecting to a network by RJ45. If it does, you will need to look through
the manual for setup instructions, since each one is different. You will be provided an application to install on your remote PC for connection. If not,
then you will need to connect using a browser by entering into the address field the address of the DVMS, which looks like
http://IP:port.
What does the recorder use for storage?
They use standard PC IDE hard drives.
Can I get more storage space?
If your recorder only supports a single drive, then you may get a different drive with a larger capacity than
the one provided.
If the model you purchased supports more than one hard drive, then you may of course purchase more drives and add them into
the system.
It does not matter if you add drives of the same or not same capacity to a DVMS that supports more than one.
My recorder is getting power, but it will not start up or it won't record.
For DVMS's than have a hot-swap drive bay, they will not power up if the bay is not locked with the key provided.
If your recorder seems fine otherwise, but won't record, try checking to see if it does have a hard drive
installed.
If not, then you may have to install one.
Do I need to have it hooked up to a monitor?
No. The only times you will need a monitor hooked up, is when configuring the system, or when playing back recorded video.
I have more questions. What do I do?
