How do I make a backup of my recordings?
If you have a recorder that can connect to a PC through USB, then install and use the software and USB cable
provided, to connect to your computer. If your recorder does not support that feature, then you will need to make
a copy by dubbing the recording. Locate the stereo dubbing cable provided and connect it to the headphones out
jack on your recorder, then plug the other end to the mic input on a separate recording device. You will have
to play your recording as you are recording a copy on the other device.
How do I connect my recorder to my PC?
This is only possible if your recorder supports a connection to PC by USB cable. First, locate the software CD
provided with your recorder. Run the "Setup" program to install. Now conect your recorder to the PC with the
provided USB cable. Now start the software that you just installed. If the recorder is not seen by the software,
try a reboot with the USB cable still connected.
How can I edit my recordings?
There is a lot of software out there available. Much of it can be pretty expensive. I recommend
Audacity, which is freeware.
My recorder is set for voice activation, why does it not record?
Once you have set your recorder into voice activation, you must then actually put the recorder into record mode
by pressing the record button. Now that the recorder is in record mode, it will record when any noise can be heard,
and will pause when it hears nothing.
My recorder is set for voice activation, but it appears it is always recording.
This is probably because there is enough noise in the room to cause the voice activation to activate.
Alternately, if you have the recorder on your phone line, then the line may have some noise.
Why would I want to get a recorder that can run off of wall power?
Because battery power generally last only 6-8 hours with most digital recorders. Many of these
recorders are capable of record times much longer than their battery life. So to get the full record
time while unattended, it is recommended you give it continuous power from a wall adapter if possible.
How far away will the standard built in mic hear?
In general, the built in mic in most digital audio recorders will hear well up to a 15 foot radius.
As an alternative, you could purchase a more powerful mic for better
clarity and larger listening radius.
Can I get a larger listening radius?
Yes. We carry mic alternates that should provide better clarity and larger listening radius.
You may want to check out our microphone section found here.
Where can I put the recorder for the best listening quality?
For legal reasons we can not tell where to place your recorded. Though for the most part,
the center of a room is usually the best place to get the maximum listening radius out of any microphone.
